We’ll start by saying we are fine. Hong Kong, however, is not.
There is widespread violence around the city. Both the protestors and police have escalated their tactics. Thankfully the area we are living in has not been affected too much recently.
However, all universities have been closed for the week, including Kyle’s (HK Polytechnic University). Tear gas was fired on PolyU campus on Monday, but nothing like what happened at Chinese University last night. Naomi’s school was cancelled today and tomorrow.
We are physically safe but feeling a bit stressed, mostly because of the uncertainty and great concern for this city we love.
Here are a couple good summaries of what is happening this week in Hong Kong if you haven’t read about it.
Thank you for the update. We have been following the news out of Hong Kong and have been worried about how it impacts the three of you. We are praying for your safety, the safety of all involved and a good resolution to the situation.

I just figured you weren’t worried about Timothy since he doesn’t go to school yet.

It is so sad and alarming. Are you all going to stay for the full year, or are you thinking of cutting it short?

It seems that there has been a dilemmas for H.K. people who need to choose social order or to give up political freedom. Due to the regime influence, H.K. government tends to announce now-withdrawn extradition bill or to refuse other society demands from the beginning of the movement. To my opinion, I condemn violence. Violence against violence is the worst. Both the radical protestors and the riot police seems not to give up their destructive reactions against each other. Or there are some evil causes behind the scenes.
Kyle and Gigi, please do not feel bad if you need to leave H.K. before your schedule. I love H.K. too. We do pray for H.K. Pray for the reconciliation and resolution in H.K. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21)
Take good care!
