We took a break from all the happenings around HK and went to Taipei, Taiwan for a week. It was a very nice time that allowed us to recoup and reorient ourselves about our time in HK. Since we have returned, HK has been calmer, but Kyle is still not allowed back on PolyU campus.
Waiting for the flight. On the flight
The day after we arrived in Taipei, we joined a bus tour to a few sights in the area surrounding Taipei. Timothy did great except for the 1.5 hours we were stuck in traffic coming home. We saw Yehliu Geopark (interesting rock formations), Shifen (wishing lantern), and Jiufen (town said to have inspired Miyazaki’s ‘Spirited Away’). Kyle took Timothy on a hike up to the clouds (literally, the view at the top was clouds).
Lantern tradition in Shifen Lighting a fire and it rises like a hot air balloon. We were worry about littering, but were told that seniors go hiking to recover the frames for reuse
View going up in Jiufen (nice and clear) View at top and coming down (clouds)
We had a good time exploring Taipei for several days. Lots of kid friendly places.

We ate a lot – from night market, to soup dumplings, to “family cooking” diners, and many more. We even got Turkey and ribs for Thanksgiving…

A nice hike up a big hill in town with the view of Taipei 101. Also went to the Chiang Kai Shek memorial and saw the changing of the guards.

Looks like an awesome getaway!

In my memory, I visited Yehliu Geopark (the rock formation) with Mom and Betty when Betty was studying college in Taiwan. It was a good trip with some spicy food and sightseeing.
Thank you for sharing your family photos.
Keeping remembering your time in HK!
